Counseling groups, classes & workshops allow us to support each other in a broad spectrum of topics that encourage our growth.

The center holds a variety of classes, events and workshops throughout the year. Most meetings are conducted in our group room, which offers a furnished, private space.

Our weekly support groups are facilitated by only licensed counselors. Group members encourage each other with ongoing mutual support and feedback.

If you are a counselor interested in partnering with the Center to provide a workshop oriented toward healing, support and education, please contact Directors Dr. Nancy Lardo and Harlee Abromson.

Let Us Come Together: Support Group

Group Leader: Directors Harlee Abromson, LCSW & Dr. Nancy Lardo, PHD

Date & Time: Completed

We are reaching out to friends and neighbors for a joining of hearts and minds to grieve, support one another and provide a safe space for expression after the tragedy that occurred on Saturday, October 27, when a gunman opened fire at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in Squirrel Hill. Eleven lives were lost, and two worshipers and four police offices were injured. We will seek to find again strength and hope in our community...

Fresh Air: Support Group

Group Leader: To Be Announced

Time: To Be Announced

Fresh Air is a counseling group to help those of us who support a loved one with anxiety or depression. Spouses, friends, family members, partners and caregivers explore life experiences and discover new resources to create positive change.

Anxiety: feelings ranging from uneasiness to immobilizing bouts of terror often leave loved ones frustrated, unsure of how to help or even how to meet their own self-care needs.

Depression: feeling sad, irritable and a decrease in motivation or energy can impair feelings of worth, success and hope.

The Next Step: Fresh understandings and life changes are possible with new support, insightful empathy and encouragement.

Our Weekly Format

Arrival:

Participants share their experiences, news and discoveries in a welcoming circle.
Educational materials: New skills and consistent approaches are offered step-by-step with true-to-life examples for all of us.
Q & A: A group discussion, with questions and answers, elaborates on the day’s tools and concludes our meeting.

Restorative yoga

Time: by appointment

Restorative yoga nourishes the body and mind through a combination of purposeful breath work and subtle passive stretches that eliminate unneeded straining.

Bolsters, props and blankets allow the body to be supported during restful poses, which open and revitalize the body, intellect and energy.

Benefits include muscular and stress release, tranquility and an expansion of insights and mindfulness.
