“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

Matthew Adams, LPC
I
came to this field from a place of recognition and gratitude for the healing that can happen through simple, compassionate human interaction. I was initiated into this healing by first experiencing the wounds any of us can sustain when compassion is absent from our experiences or lies buried beneath too much fear, confusion, and loneliness for us to feel it.

Being human, our task is to navigate the darkness and light of our experiences, to find both the wisdom and value with which we might transcend isolation and reach simple human connection, fellowship, acceptance, and love.

Therapy, for me, provides a supportive framework for this process. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience working with adult populations struggling with substance use, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustment crises, grief and loss, and personality disorders.

I have degrees in Professional Counseling, Fiction Writing, and Mass Communication and spent 15 years as an educator and workshop facilitator prior to becoming a counselor. My academic pursuits and personal life have been dedicated to the study and practice of communication and what it can do to facilitate human growth and development and by doing so, express and heal psychic wounds.

As a counselor, I bring curiosity, sensitivity, and insight to my work with clients and draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches to meet their needs. However, my true strength as a counselor is as a captive listener of other people’s stories, a conscientious, attentive, and caring reader of other people’s lives.

Change can feel intimidating, isolating, and beyond our control. But we can draw courage and strength by answering the call and inviting others into our process. I feel humbled and honored to help clients understand and navigate the changes they’ve been called to address.
